Kila Raipur Club lifts hockey title

Kila Raipur Garewal Hockey Club, Kila Raipur outclassed Haryana XI to lift the Bhagwant Memorial Gold Cup after defeating Haryana Eleven in a one sided hockey final match by 3-0 on the final day of the 74th Kila Raipur Sports Festival or 'Rural Olympics' held here on Sunday. Sarabjot Singh, Lakhvir Singh and Rajvinder Singh scored one goal each to script the success story.

In the women's final, Sports Wing, Bharat Nagar defeated Government College, Ludhiana by a solitary goal to lift the title. The boys' Under-19 hockey title went to Sangroor Academy after they defeated Surjit Academy in the final by 3:2 in a tie-breaker.

Meanwhile, Malwa School Hockey Academy, Ludhiana routed Kila Raipur Academy by 2-0 to win the boys' Under-17 title.

Mandeep Kaur, the defending champion in the 4X100meters relay in the SAF Games had to toil hard for a narrow win over Deepti in 100 meters race for women. She clocked 12:52 seconds. Another international athlete Harpreet Kaur, who represented India in the SAF Games comfortably won women's 400 meters by a gap of almost 4 seconds after a personal timing of 60:93 seconds . Deepti once again finished second. Amandeep Singh won the men's 200 metre title with a personal timing of 22:33 seconds. T T Ludhiana claimed the men's high jump title after a jump of 1.85 metres. The women's title was won by Kanwaljit Kaur of Jalandhar after a jump of 1.35 metre.

Kabaddi World Cup on anvil
THE state will host the four nation hockey gold cup for women and World Cup Kabadi Tournament very soon. Sukhbir Singh Badal, Deputy CM of State, announced that the winner of Kabadi cup will get Rs 1 crore in cash.
Addressing the public at last day of Kila Raipur near here he said that the new sports policy for state will be framed within this fiscal year and there will be special budget will be sanctioned for the sports and infrastructure development. He also announced that the first kabadi match of the World Cup will also held at the same stadium. He said that the Punjab Institute of Sports, on the line of National Institutes of Sports, will be established within next two years. The main emphasis will be laid on kabaddi, hockey, athletics etc. He added that the state will get five new astroturf hockey stadium.

National flag ‘insulted’
During a function on the concluding day of the Rural Olympics, the National Flag was insulted by a motorcycle stunt driver. The Laddi of Patiala threw the National flag on ground after completing his stunt. He did the same with the National flag of Canada. The organisers of the tournament, however, did not stop him from doing so.

Karambir wins bullock cart title
The prestigious title of bullock cart race was won by Karanbir Singh of Assi Kalan. The second spot was grabbed by Bito of Spar while Baljinder Singh of Kila Raipur came third.
