Mumbai With the introduction of swanky CNG air-conditioned King Long buses, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking has decided to convert 50 old air-conditioned (AC) buses to non-AC. Early this week, the city’s transport arm had floated tenders inviting bidders for the same.

The new AC King Long buses not only have a modern look but are also becoming popular among the commuters. The fares of the new buses, introduced on the BRTS routes in the city, are also the highest among other BEST buses.

“Instead of the old AC buses, we are planning to introduce the new state-of-art buses,” said BEST General Manager Uttam Khobragade. He added, “We had received complaints from commuters regarding the old AC buses. In addition, most of them had them are over 10 years old. Since we do not want to scrap these buses, we have decided to convert them into normal buses that be used on other routes for a few more years,” added Khobragade. The BEST usually scraps a non-AC bus after every 15 years. Also, a proposal of introducing a double deck AC bus in the city was submitted before the BEST committee early this week.
