Surat With 10 days to go for Uttarayan, the number of accidents and deaths as a result of kite flying is on the rise. In the recent case, a 37-year-old woman lost her life on Saturday morning in Ahmedabad after being cut by a manja twine.

Aruna Shah, a resident of Fatehnanar in the Paldi area, was crossing the Shreyas Bridge on her two-wheeler when a twine slit her throat. She was rushed to the Jivraj Mehta Hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.

This was the third such death in the city this season. Earlier, nine-year-old Nidhi Chuhan died after falling off the terrace at her uncle's place in Isanpur. In another incident, one Nazir Mohammad Shaikh (40) died after falling from a tree while trying to get a kite stuck in a branch.
