Kolkata The body of one of the victims who drowned in the Sunday boat accident was found by a fisherman near Kathchara, around 300 meters away from the accident site, on Friday.

The decomposed body of Santosh Singh (28), a resident of Ultadanga, was found three days after the divers spent close to 100 hours searching for the bodies.

After receiving the information, the rescue team immediately dived in to fish out the body.

The accident had occurred on Sunday evening when a fisherman’s boat, hired by a few picnickers, sunk in Rupnarayan at Kolaghat, where 18 people, including a few children had drowned.

According to the police, the boat was ferrying around 29 people, where the capacity was only 15 to 20 people.

Sheikh Mirza, Additional SP (HQ), said: “The body was first noticed by a local fisherman around 4.30 am who informed the members of a local club. Thereafter, they informed the family members who have been camping in the area since the tragedy occurred.” The body was then sent to the Tamluk district hospital for autopsy and was later handed over to the family members.

Rabindranath Majhi, the fisherman of the boat which sunk in the accident, was arrested by the district police on Thursday and was produced before the judicial magistrate in Tamluk today. He has been remanded in judicial custody for 14 days.
