A study conducted by Child Rights and You (CRY), an NGO, has brought to light the miserable plight of 31 municipal schools here.
None of the 31 schools surveyed had a library or playground. In terms of sanitary facilities, only 14 of the 31 schools had separate toilet facilities for girls. Also, not even 50 per cent of the schools surveyed provided midday meals to students.
“Only 14 of the 31 schools claimed to provide midday meals. Also, children have reported that the midday meals were ‘sub-standard’ in quality,” the report says.
On the dismal condition of schools, Anupama Mohiri, manager, volunteer action of CRY, said: “The new board of the KMC should ensure adequate allocation and appropriate spending of funds in each school. They should evolve mechanisms to address quality issues related to these schools.”
At present, there are 268 KMC primary schools with 26,971 registered students.

most govt sponsored schools are terrible. don't know how the children focus or learn anything in poorly lighted, damp classrooms with broken benches. not to mention the disastrous black and white uninteresting text books. no wonder we are still struggling with mass education.
