Lucknow The row created in the cricketing fraternity seems to have forced a senior IAS officer from UP to withdraw his son's name from the UP Ranji team. Kshitij Lal--- son of Netram, principal secretary to the chief minister, was included in the team as the ‘seventeenth member’. He travelled with the team during quite a few matches including the quarter-final match against Gujarat.

On Thursday, the government had said that it had no say in the selection of the team which was done by the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) through the selection committee chosen by it.

Though no UPCA official is willing to come on record on this issue, one of the office-bearers of UPCA said on the condition of anonymity, that Kshitij had withdrawn from the team on his own and he had not been asked to leave. “His chances of turning up at Nagpur for the semis as a part of the team are very bleak,” he further added.

Now the UP cricket team is slated to play the Ranji semi-final at Nagpur from Sunday next against Tamil Nadu would reach there from New Delhi without Kshitij. It may be mentioned that Kshitij has never been known for any worthwhile performance in cricket.
