“Kuber left Mumbai on Friday. It was expected to arrive at Porbandar on Saturday night or Sunday morning. Contact was also lost with the vessel on Saturday, which was re-established only late on Sunday evening,” said owner Vinod Masani.
The vessel is sailing home with a new crew after a Mumbai court and the Customs department gave their nods.
At one point on Sunday, the owner had also considered taking help from the Indian Coast Guard and other fishing boats to locate Kuber. “I had decided to wait till dusk. Luckily, we got the news by then ,” said Masani.
Earlier, the trawler was found abandoned on the south Mumbai coast with the beheaded corpse of its tandel, Amarsinh Solanki. The GPS system used by terrorists proved the vessel was used by the terrorists to cross the International Maritime Border Line, all the way to Mumbai.
