L&T’s Business Unit, ISC bring day-long joy for poor children

Pune, February 3 The Pune centre of The Insurance Business Unit (BU) of Larsen & Toubro Infotech Ltd & Indian Sponsorship Committee (ISC) recently organised the sports day called "Bal Dhamaal." Around 800 children from the brick kilns and slum communities from in and around Pune participated in this sports event.

"Bal Dhamaal" was a day-long event which included competitive sports, team-bonding games and pure fun, there was also an element of entertainment wherein after the event the children danced to the tunes of the DJ.

"Bal Dhamaal" is an initiative by India Sponsorship Committee, an NGO working in the area of children's education since 1968. It is supported and sponsored by various corporate.

The event had been conceptualised and organised to instill the spirit of team-bonding, sportsmanship, competitive spirit, participation and recognition of their achievements, stated a press release.

Organising Bal Dhamaal was an extension of the Insurance BU, Pune centre's corporate social responsibility initiative "ACE" (Aspiring for Children's Eductaion). The initiative was formally launched by V K Magapu, chief executive, L&T Infotech and member of the Board on August 27, 2007. Under the program ACE, Pune centre of Insurance BU supports education, health and nutritional needs of 250 underprivileged children at ISC through voluntary efforts and financial aid. The focus of the program is on two areas: computer education, through setting up a computer lab and building wholesome personalities through mind enrichment activities like innovative ways of teaching number counting, fun games related to listening skills, building vocabulary, taking children for industry visits and finger impression paintings.
