The Railway ministry has sought Rs 22 crore from the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation to complete the pending Lakkar Bridge project. This was discussed at a meeting held at New Delhi on Wednesday evening. In the meeting with railway officials, MC Commissioner G S Ghuman along with superintending engineers Dharam Singh and H S Khussa discussed the issue. This is the third meeting in the last one month.

The MC had earlier deposited Rs 4 crore with the Railways a long time ago and now needs to pay the pending Rs 18 crore. The project, which was started in 2002, is hanging fire as the Public Works Department (PWD) and Railways failed to complete it due to lack of communication, hence escalating the cost by more than three times.

The Railways, meanwhile, have also asked the MC to deposit the amount for another railway over bridge on the Pakhowal Road. Tenders will be floated after depositing the money.
