Ludhiana, March 5 The fight over the ownership of around 2 acres of land on the GT Road near Chand Cinema has become a political war of sorts. Both, the owners of Chand Cinema and Manju Cinema, say they have papers to corroborate their claim. The land in question is worth more than Rs 150 crore.

The owners of Chand Cinema, Dr Rajinder Hora and Dr Rajiv Hora, have claimed that they are being harassed because Paramjit Singh, the owner of Manju Cinema, is very close to Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.

A case had been registered against Hora brothers and a few other people for breaking the boundary wall of the property around midnight on March 3.

Though Hora brothers have taken a stay from a local court to stop the construction of the boundary wall, Dr Rajiv Hora said, “We are being harassed and even police are also not helping us. This is because the ruling party leaders are helping Paramjit Singh. This land has been with us for the past 50 years and we have all the papers with us”.

The brothers, too, have their political allegiance. While Rajinder is the organising secretary of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, Rajiv is the secretary.

Meanwhile, Paramjit Singh, said, “The land has been with our family for the last 50 years and it is next to the cold storage owned by me. I had also got a boundary wall constructed around the land. A few days ago, it was being repaired when a few miscreants tried to demolish it. All these years, no one claimed ownership of the land. We had been maintaining the area by growing vegetables earlier. Only a portion of the 4 acres owned by us is under dispute”.

The fact that both the parties have papers to prove their ownership has also put a question mark on the Revenue Department’s role in the entire episode.

A large part of the land in the same area also belongs to the Centre government. The area, however, has not been developed.
