Set up by the Board of Revenue, the kiosk has been developed by IBM and the software has been specially designed in Hindi by NIC, Uttar Pradesh to suit the local requirements.
“Over 200 people used this machine on Wednesday. The process is extremely simple and a person just has to enter his or her village name, Kasra or Khatauni number and the related land records flash on the screen,” said Shivbalak, a home guard, deployed near the kiosk to assist people using the machine.
Ram Khilavan (57), who came to the tehsil office from Amausi to enquire about his land records, told The Indian Express: “I had been running around various departments for so many hours just to enquire about the status of my land. Then someone told me about this new machine and I got all the information instantly.”
District Magistrate of Lucknow, Chandra Bhanu said: “We have taken a lead in installing the kiosk. The process of acquiring information about land records will become easier and faster.”
He added: “Earlier, people had to spend days to check their land records and then spend double the time requesting the department to get it modified. Now, they can access their land records in seconds and also forward a complaint to the tehsil, if they need to make any change.”
While the kiosk can be used for viewing the land records free of cost, users can also request for a copy of the record from the adjoining computer office, already been established in all the districts.
About the future plans, SB Singh, State Information Officer and the Technical Director of NIC, Uttar Pradesh, informed, “The software has been designed to suit the needs of residents of Uttar Pradesh. After the approval from the Board of Revenue, the software has been sent to all the districts to establish such kiosks in their sadar tehsils.”
He added: “One need not be a computer literate to use it. We aim to cater to all the 2.5 crore landholders in the state soon. It is a boon for the people and the administration. Once such kiosks are established in all tehsils, we can connect them and have a main centre at the collectorate.”
