Last suspect surrenders: ‘I made a mistake’

Chandigarh, October 03 Was in Haridwar since the incident, says Sompal

Sompal, one of the five accused in the German national molestation case, who was absconding since Sunday, surrendered in court on Friday. He has been remanded to two days in police custody. Sompal admitted that he had committed a mistake and added that he was in Haridwar since the incident.

Sukhwinder Singh alias Sukhi (23) and Maninder Singh Jolly (24) had surrendered in the district courts on Wednesday. Twenty-year-old Pankaj Punia was arrested on Monday while Harpreet Singh alias Dalli was arrested on Tuesday. The four accused have been sent to 14-days’ police remand after their two-day remand expired today.

Following an application moved by the police, Harpreet and Pankaj have agreed for the identification parade while Jolly, Sukhi and Sompal refused.

On Thursday, medical examination of four of the accused was conducted at Government Multi Specialty Hospital, Sector 16. Although all had bruises, a police officer said Jolly had suffered the severest injuries, including a deep cut on his chest and another below his neck. According to the police, Jolly is a drug addict and used smack regularly.
