Kolkata With the West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) calling an emergency all-party meeting tomorrow, a section of political leaders thought it was a discreet move towards early elections in Bengal.

Sources in the CEO’s office said the EC has asked all concerned departments to prepare the final electoral roll by September this year. In tomorrow’s meeting, the CEO will discuss the modalities of preparing the final voters’ list.

EC sources said, the commission wants to send enumerators at the booth level from July 13 an exercise that will continue for two weeks. Following this, the enumeration process of inclusion and exclusion of voters will take at least two months. By September the electoral roll would be ready for holding elections.

The ruling CPM, however, has been saying that the EC cannot take an unilateral decision on holding elections in the state. The EC should seek the opinion of the state government.

The Trinamool Congress, on the other hand has decided raise the issue during the Assembly session which will start from Friday.
