Chandigarh A suspended lecturer from Rajasthan was arrested from the city on Thursday for allegedly assaulting his wife after a scuffle last night. The accused, Om Parkash (55), is believed to have been married to nearly six women.

Sources said that on February 10, Parkash gave a matrimonial advertisement in a newspaper. A resident of Sector 20, Sonia (name changed), responded to the advertisement and the couple got married on Tuesday in Arya Samaj Mandir, Sector 19. Leaving Sonia at her Sector 20 residence, Prakash decided to get the marriage registered on Wednesday.

“On Wednesday morning, I called him up.

A lady answered the call and introduced herself as his wife. I was shocked and narrated the entire incident to her,” said Sonia.

The police said that Parkash came to Sonia’s house last night and manhandled her. Sonia has field an application with the Special Superintendent of Police (SSP) asking for a thorough probe into the incident.

He was produced before the Sub-Divisional magistrate today and sent to judicial custody after nobody turned up for his bail.
