Lectures on parallels in Indian and SE Asian theatre

Ahmedabad, March 2 The similarities between South-east Asian shadow puppetry and the Indian version, the imprint of the Ramayana and the Mahabharata on traditional South-east Asian theatre and other cultural strands between the two regions will be dwelt upon at a two-day long lecture series in the city from Tuesday.

The event will consist of a series of lectures by Professor Ghulam Sarwar Yousouf, an expert in theatre from Malaysia. Yousouf is the director of the Asian Cultural Heritage Centre, Malaysia, and also the adjunct professor at the Culture Centre, Malay University, Kuala Lumpur.

The lecture series is being organised by the Theatre Media Centre, Budreti Trust. It will be held at Gujarat Vishwakosh Bhavan and the J G School of Performing Arts.
