This was revealed by Raghunath Kushari, the CPM’s Kolkata district committee secretary.
Kushari led a delegation of the Kolkata Left Front, which submitted a 21-point charter of demands to Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee.
The charter requested the government to ensure development in sectors like public health, transport, communication, tourism, industries, education and infrastructure in the city. Salient among the demands are: government will have to set up eco-friendly industries in the abandoned land of closed factories, tannery workers will have to be rehabilitated, the Kalighat temple and its adjoining areas will have to be developed as a centre for tourism attraction, work on East-West Metro will have to be expedited, seven government hospitals which are in a dilapidated condition will have to be modernised.
“We believe that there is a lack of coordination between KEIP, CESC, KMDA and PWD. We have told the chief minister that he should look into the matter,” said Kushari after the meeting.
