The Left Front on Thursday said it would hold a “jail bharo” programme on April 8 throughout the country, except in West Bengal, to protest against the rise in prices of petrol, diesel and essential commodities. In West Bengal, the Front will hold demonstrations before central government offices on the day, Left Front chairman Biman Bose said after a meeting of the ruling coalition. Bose said the meeting also discussed the coming civic polls. “The Left Front will decide on candidates for the elections on the basis of consensus,” he said, adding district units have been asked to field only “active” comrades.
