‘LeT’ letter threatens attack on ordnance factory

Ghaziabad The Ghaziabad police have received a letter threatening attacks on the ordnance factory and power stations in the district on January 26.

Sources said the letter, signed by one Mohammad Raza, who claims to be a Lashkar-e-Toiba operative, has been addressed to the Ghaziabad District Magistrate. It says after Mumbai, the next target would be the ordnance factory in Murad Nagar, and power stations and other important places in the district.

Police sources said security has been stepped up in the district to deal with any eventuality.

In another development in the area, Gautam Budh Nagar SSP R K Chaturvedi has been transferred to Pilibhit. He is likely to be replaced by Naveen Arora, posted in Ghaziabad earlier, police sources said.

Convict escapes from Ghaziabad courtroom

Ghaziabad: An accused escaped from the Ghaziabad courts when the judge was announcing a verdict against him in an attempt to murder case. Additional District Judge Kalicharan was announcing a five-year jail term for Ravinder Kumar when he escaped. Sources said despite the presence of police officers the accused managed to flee. Vijay Bhushan, SP (City) Ghaziabad, said the police was investigating the matter and the culprit would be arrested soon. “We will also book erring police officers for lapses,” he said. — ENS
