Pune With an eight-stroke lead and confidence by your side, there is very little that the rest of the field can do to stop your run. That was exactly the case at the LG Western India Amateur that was being played at the par-71 Poona Club Golf Course as Abhishek Jha won his second title on the LG Amateur Tour this season with great ease. Jha carded a modest round of five over 76 but it was good enough to ensure a nine-stroke win.

H S Kang, playing his best round of the tournament, finished behind Abhishek with a round of one over 72. Kang's effort was good enough to give him the best round of the day, which was responsible for pushing him up the leaderboard.

Moin Malak and Vikram Rana, with rounds of 78 and 73, finished tied for third place while Jasjeet Singh, the tournament leader after the first two rounds, fell further back to finish tied for fifth place along with Pawan Kumar.

At the start of the round, there was a hint of a fight with Jasjeet making the initial charge. After four holes, with Abhishek two over par for the round and Jasjeet two under, the lead was cut down to almost half but it was just a mirage. The fight never came and there was no pressure on the leader through the rest of the round. Abhishek only managed two birdies in his round, on the par-5 7th and the final hole while there were as many as seven bogeys in his card. But, it was still good enough for a comfortable win as no other player could manage the kind of round that was required to overcome an eight-stroke deficit.

Abhishek, who got off to a slow start in the tournament, said "I was hitting the ball really well, so I guess I put too much pressure on myself." The turning point was undoubtedly the third round 67, which catapulted him to the top of the leaderboard. He said, "The eagle on the tenth in the third round turned it around for me and also helped ease the pressure."

With three tournament left, the 22-year-old added, "My immediate target is to finish well this season and hopefully I can take my game up another level and then I can turn pro."

This was Abhishek's second win on the LG Amateur Tour this season. The first win came at the season opener LG ITC Classic Open Amateur Championship. The players head to the Noida Golf Club for the LG Noida Open Amateur before they go to Kolkata for the LG All-India Amateur Championship.
