New Delhi, January 8 Following the identity card fiasco, Lt Governor Tejendra Khanna ran into another controversy, facing a mutiny of sorts over his plan to induct ex-defence officers to instill some discipline in administration at Townhall, the headquarter of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

Barely 15 days after Gp Capt Dharm Vir Verma joined the MCD as Deputy Commissioner, Shahdara-South Zone, the councillors asked MCD Commissioner Ashok Nigam to remove him from the post. Their grouse: Verma ‘did not consult’ them before ordering the transfer of sanitary inspectors of the zone.

The councillors had apprised Standing Committee Chairman Vijendra Gupta on Monday of their objections to Verma’s working style.

"These officers are not aware of the working culture of the civic body and need to consult the elected members before taking decisions. The councillors made a complaint to me in person and to the MCD Commissioner. We have asked that the transfer orders be stalled," said Leader of the House Subhash Arya.

According to Arya, Verma ordered the transfers on December 28.

According to sources, Nigam has asked Rajmohan Singh, additional commissioner in charge of the Personnel Department, to look into the matter. Despite repeated attempts to contact him, Verma was unavailable for comments.
