Lions to take on Rockets in practice match today

Chandigarh, March 3 As Chandigarh Lions face Ahmedabad Rockets in the first practice match today, it will again see the familiar faces like Chris Cairns, Andrew Hall and Dinesh Mongia along with new recruits such as Damien Martyn, Heath Streak and Mathew Elliot. Chandigarh Lions led by former New Zealand all rounder ChrisCairns finished as runners-up in the first edition of Indian Cricket League, whereas the Ahmedabad team will be featuring for the first time in the league.

Both the teams will be looking forward to gain some form before they face each other in the third match of the league on March 12 at Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Sector-3, Panchkula. And as Ahmedabad Rockets' Reetinder Singh Sodhi puts in, it will be a good opportunity for the players to understand each others game.

“The team has been formed recently and we all are hoping to get in some fine from before the championship starts. Damien Martyn is here and so are Wavell Hinds, Heath Streak and other international stars. Besides that, it also helps us in understanding the improved ground conditions better,”said Sodhi who has now switched from Chandigarh Lions to Ahmedabad Rockets.

Hinds may miss out today
OWING to soar muscle Wavell Hinds might have to sit out in match against Chandigarh Lions on Tuesday. Hinds stretched his thigh muscles while practicing at nets on Sunday.
Former West Indian allrounder did not attend net sessions on Monday and rested in his hotel room.

Sriram for ECB Level III coaching course
FORMER Tamil Nadu allrounder has left for England to pursue ECB Level III Coaching Course and will join Ahmedabad Rockets conditioning camp on March 9 in Panchkula. Sriram will report at Derbyshire County Cricket ground on March 4. Due to this Sriram will not take part in the practice matches against Chandigarh Lions.
Speaking to Newsline before leaving for Delhi, Sriram said, “I don't have any intention of becoming a coach in future, but I believe that this qualification will help in improving my game.”

Inzamam to lead Lahore Badshahs
INZAMAM-ul Haq will captain an all-Pakistani team Lahore Badshahs, while new recruit Damien Martyn will skipper the Ahmedabad Rockets in the Indian Cricket League (ICL) Twenty20 Grand Championship starting later this month. Chris Harris will now lead Hyderabad Rockets after Haq switched to Lahore Badshahs.
