Love Dale School
At Love Dale Nursery School, children came dressed in traditional folk costumes, the girls in lehngas, and the boys in lungi and pagri. In true festival spirit, they sang folk songs and recited bolian. Some young artistes were also given a chance to perform on the stage. A bonfire was lighted, and nuts and gachak served. The children also enjoyed kite-flying.
Ram Lal Bhasin Public School
Lohri was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Ram Lal Bhasin Public School. The children had a gala time as they danced around the bonfire, and offered their prayers for the prosperity of the nation. Manpreet Kaur narrated the story of Lohri. Akriti, Himani, Alisha, Shreya, Anjana, Adhiraj and Abhishek sang the lohri song, ‘Sunder Munderiye’, cheered by the whole crowd.
The boys participated in the kite-flying competition. To mark the importance of the girl child, the staff and students congratulated one of the employees on the birth of his daughter, and her first Lohri was celebrated. The students enjoyed the traditional sweets associated with Lohri. Usha Kiran Bhasin, president of SDP Sabha, Balraj Bhasin, Usha Kiran Bhasin and the school director wished all the students on the occasion.
Bharat Vikas Parishad
The Dr Kitchlu Nagar branch of Bharat Vikas Parishad celebrated the birthday of Swami Vivekanand and Lohri at Viklang Sahayta Kendra, Rishi Nagar. Kanika, Pankaj Jindal and Meena Sachdev threw light on the life and teachings of Swami Vivekanand. Ravinder Mittal conducted a quiz on the life, teachings and philosophy of Swami Vivekanand.
The women and children presented a cultural programme on lohri, which included folk songs and giddha. The children danced on lohri songs. Aruna Puri informed the house about the history and significance of lohri.
The programme started with Bharat Mata Pujan, followed by Vande Mataram, and concluded with singing of the National Anthem. Ravinder Mittal, secretary BVP, thanked all the prominent personalities and guests.
Government Senior Secondary School, Hassanpur
At Government Senior Secondary School, Hassanpur, the festival was celebrated under the guidance of Dr Jasvir Singh, the school principal. He stressed upon the need to celebrate the birthdays of girls, and also told children about the importance of lohri. Kuldeep Singh Grewal asked children to spread the message of peace and love on this occasion.
Lohri celebrated at PAU
Lohri was celebrated with enthusiasm in the Bougainvillaea Garden of the Landscaping and Floriculture Department at PAU, like the previous years.
The field workers, gardeners, students and faculty members of the department, as well as those from other departments, participated in the celebration. Those who spoke on the occasion included Gurbhajan Singh Gill, Jaswinder Bhalla, a noted comedian, Dr Maan Singh Toor, an art lover, Dr Amrit Parkash Singh and Dr Ramandeep Singh Jassal, who spoke about the background of the festival.
Gill highlighted the legend of Dulla Bhatti. Dr Jagtar Singh Dhiman, Additional Director Communication, wished the participants peace and prosperity in life.
The participants took a pledge to work with devotion before the Lohri pyre. Rewris and laddoos were distributed to every body. The guests were presented with floral bouquets. Dr Ramesh Kumar Sadavarti thanked the guests and the field workers, who made it a point to make the celebrations successful.
