Chandigarh United Sikhs, a UN affiliated, civil rights and humanitarian relief organisation, has urged newly elected US President Barack Hussein Obama to consider the aspirations of all minorities and save the Sikh community from hate crimes.

Gurvinder Singh of United Sikhs, said: “Since September 11, 2001, Sikhs have faced brutal hate crimes and discrimination.

A few examples include the death of Balbir Singh Sodhi in Arizona, the beating up of 63-year-old Baljit Singh of New York in January 2008, and the savage beating up of 21-year-old Jasmir Singh of New York, who lost his left eye in the attack just yesterday.”

The organisation has urged Obama to look into the critical issue of Sikhs in France while tackling the foreign policy. France has passed a law that does not allow Sikh children to wear their dastaar (turban) in schools.
