BA second year student Sher Khan and Syed Masood, along with BA first year student Sarvendra Kumar were rusticated after they were caught carrying cellphones to the examination room. Moreover, 11 students were also caught cheating on Monday.
“For the last few years, we have been announcing that examinees should not bring cellphones with them in the examination hall. Though the trend has declined, there are still a few who violate the order,” said LU Chief Proctor Dr A N Singh. “We will no longer tolerate the mobile menace during examinations.”
Referring to a government order in connection to curbing cheating during examinations, an additional proctor said, “The order says that during examinations, a student can be rusticated only if it is ascertained that he or she was copying. In this case, the university has taken an autonomous decision.” “However, we will also approach the government to make amendments in the order so that students caught with mobiles can also be put in the purview of unfair means,” he added.
Earlier, the university used to impose a penalty of Rs 100 on students who were caught with cellphones during examinations.
This way, LU had collected around Rs 3 lakh last year.
