Lucknow, March 7 Some of the officials of the Lucknow University’s (LU) affiliation department have come under the scanner for overlooking the norms while granting affiliation to four degree colleges in the city a year ago.

According to the rules, if any college opts for affiliation it should have classrooms of size 85 to 90 square metre.

Likewise, the college must have a library in 80 square metre area and labs of the same sizes. However, while granting the affiliation, these norms were overlooked by the varsity officials.

“These officials did not bother to inquire about the infrastructure of the colleges. By manipulating, the officials managed to provide the affiliation,” said a senior LU official. “The four degree colleges are situated on the outskirts of the city. Two of the colleges are situated in Bakshi-ka-talab locality,” he added.

Questioning the role of the officials over the affiliation issue, the higher education department has directed the university to ascertain that all the norms are followed before granting affiliation to any college. “Before granting the affiliation, the government has directed us to ascertain that the college land is registered under the name of the college in the revenue records. Also, we have to ensure that the area parameters set for classrooms, labs and libraries have been met,” said varsity officials.

Regional higher education officer SA Ali said, “Under any circumstances, overlooking the affiliation norms will not be tolerated. It will be ensured that the affiliation is granted to genuine colleges.”

Lucknow University Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof Radhey Shyam Yadav promised to take strict action against the officials.

“We have already constituted teams to ensure all norms regarding affiliation are followed,” he said.
