Lucknow Lucknow University Vice-Chancellor Professor Ajaib Singh Brar, who took charge in January 2008, is set to leave mid-term to join Guru Nanak Dev University in Punjab as its new Vice-Chancellor.

Ending his one-and-a-half-year term at LU on a sad note, Brar said “financial crunch, indiscipline and unnecessary pressures from all ends” made it difficult for him to implement many of his innovative plans for the University. “I will be joining a university, which is well quipped, disciplined, does not suffer financial crunch and is orderly. It does not suffer any problems caused either by students’ or employees’ union. I will get a better chance to put my plans at work there,” said Brar, who had earlier served in Guru Nanak Dev University as a lecturer for six years. He said a letter from GND University reached him around 6 pm on Thursday and he is likely to join the

University within the next two weeks.

“I tried my level best to get funds from the state government. I tried to explain to them the need to have better infrastructure and better laboratories, but to no avail,” said the former professor of IIT-Delhi about his LU stint.

“Be it students, employees or teachers, I have faced resistance while bringing change,” said Brar, adding that he would be handing over his resignation letter within a day or two.
