Organised by UTV World Movies and Alliance Francaise, the two-day festival includes blockbusters like Leon: The Professional, La Femme Nikita, Subway and The Fifth Element. “We selected films that had won or been nominated for prestigious awards like the BAFTA, Golden Globe as well as the Oscars,” says Sameer Ganapathy, business head, UTV World Movies.
While Subway, with Isabelle Adjani in the lead, is a black comedy set in the Paris underground, Leon revolves around a girl who links up with a professional hitman to avenge the death of her family, killed by drug traffickers. Incidentally, Subway won an astonishing 13 César nominations in its time. Nikita revolves around a drug addict who is trained to become a lethal secret agent. “The film was so successful that it inspired an American re-make starring Bridget Fonda and a television series, neither of which had the power and style of Besson’s original,” says Ganapathy.
The festival will be held at the Alliance Francaise on January 14 and 15. Contact: 43500200
