Lucknow teams shine in State Games

Lucknow, February 21 Lucknow teams dominated the proceedings in most of the events of State Games-2008 on Friday.In the basketball semi-finals, Lucknow defeated DLW 67-62 while RDSO defeated Jaunpur 55-38 in the men’s section.

In handball quarter-finals, Lucknow defeated Kanpur 9-6, Hindalco beat Meerut 18-9, Naini beat Meerut 14-4 and Kanpur beat Gorakhpur 16-5 in the girls’ section. In the boys’ section quarters, Gorakhpur defeated Faizabad 25-24, Varanasi defeated Lucknow 16-13, Saifai beat Hindalco 18-14 while UP Police beat Naini 22-18.

Lucknow defeated Gorakpur 4-0 while Varanasi defeated Kanpur 2-1 in the semis to set up title clash against each other in football.

In volleyball, Lucknow girls defeated Hardoi 25-12, 25-17 while Lucknow Girls’ Hostel team beat Varanasi 24-4, 25-9 to advance further. In the boys’ section, UP Police beat Gorakhpur Sports College 25-15, 25-18 while Sports College Lucknow beat SSB Gorakhpur 25-17, 28-16 and 25-19 to advance into the next round of the tournament.

In badminton, Ravinder Singh of Lucknow and Anurag Sharma of Allahabad emerged winners in their respective men’s singles finals. In the women’s singles’ semis, Kavita Singh of Gorakhpur and Jyoti Sharma of Bareilly emerged winners. In the women’s doubles’ semis, the pairs of Jyoti Sharma and Kavita (Bareilly/ Gorakhpur) and Seema Patwal and Nida Asmat (Lucknow) reached the finals.

The judo events commenced at 35th Bn PAC, Mahanagar on Friday.
