Lucknow triumphs SIDBI zonal cricket

Lucknow Lucknow defeated Mumbai by 12 runs in the final of the SIDBI Inter Zone Twenty20 Cricket Tournament at KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium here on Sunday. Batting first, Lucknow mustered 105 runs losing six wickets in the given 20 overs. In reply, Mumbai could score 93 runs losing nine wickets in 20 overs.

The prize distribution ceremony was held later in the day. While Ashoo Tiwari (Mumbai) was declared ‘Best batsman’, Satish (Delhi) was adjudged ‘Best Bowler’. T Balaji (Lucknow) bagged the ‘Man-of-the-tournament’ award.

(Final): Lucknow: 105 for six wickets in 20 overs (Manur Sharma 15, Marvin Kishore 14; Mukesh 3 for 25), Mumbai: 93 for nine in 20 overs(Gaurishankar 26,Mahesh 11, Yogesh 2 for 16, Dinesh Prasad 2 for 19);

(Last league match): Mumbai: 166 runs for eight in 20 overs (Ashoo Tiwari 49, Prashant 43, Mahesh 29; Satish Kumar 5 for 22),

Delhi: 127 all out in 19.5 overs (Satish Chandra 19, Piyush 29, Gaurishankar 3 for 9, Mukesh Kumar 3 for 21).

Paul, Vinod shine

ALL-ROUND efforts by skipper C Paul (77 runs; 4 for 39) and Vinod Singh (43 runs; 4 for 23) went a long way as LVCA ‘B’ defeated SGPGI team by 39 runs in their league match of the KN Kapoor Memorial Cricket Tournament at Pt Rahas Bihari Tiwari Stadium here on Sunday. Paul’s 77 came off 71 balls which included 12 boundaries.

Brief Scores: LVCA ‘B’: 184 for three in 25 overs ( C Paul 77, Vinod Singh 43, VS Gujral 26; Rajesh Dinkar 1 for 29); SGPGI: 145 all out in 23 overs ( Lokesh 55, SK Singh 36; Vinod Singh 4 for 23, C Paul 4 for 39, Mahesh Vyas 2 for 14).

Kamran Khan in IPL

THE Awadh Sky Sports Cricket Academy has expressed happiness over the selection of Kamran Khan in the Rajasthan Royals team for the Indian Premier League. The 18 year-old fast bowler has never played in first-class cricket. He has entered a contract of Rs 12 lakhs with the team. Kamran hails from UP and is now staying at Mumbai.

Talking to The Indian Express, former Ranji trophy player Obaid Kamal said, “I saw him at the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association’s (UPCA) fast bowling camp at Kanpur. There is a natural talent for the game in him. I realised that he has good stamina, so I asked him to increase his run-up. If he continues to practice with the same amount of dedication then he has a bright future.”

Sarna cricket

OUDH Gymkhana Club defeated MB Club by 32 runs in the final of the Ravi Sarna Memorial Cricket Tournament at M B Club grounds here on Sunday. Brig HGV Singh gave away the prizes to the winners.

Rajesh Kapoor was adjudged ‘Best Batsman’, Sumit Agarwal was adjudged ‘Best Bowler’ while Nitin Agarwal was declared ‘Best all-rounder’. Sunny Malhotra bagged the ‘Man-of-the-match award’.
