On Day 2 of the Sangat Darshan, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal handed over a draft of Rs 40 crore to Mayor Hakam Singh Giaspura as first the instalment of the overall development of the city.
“More funds will follow as the work progresses,” said Badal at a public meeting held in the constituency of Chief Parliamentary Secretary Harish Rai Dhanda today.
But the masses did not seem much enthused. A majority of the association heads who met the CM had met him earlier as well.
“Most of the SAD representatives have come to register their complaints. The Sangat Darshan seems more for SAD supporters than the common man,” said Gurpreet Gogi, councillor of ward number 53.
He also handed over a long list of demands to the CM, including quashing of an FIR against his wife Sukchain Bassi.
The Ludhiana Property Dealers’ Association members met the chief minister at the Lions’ Club and requested him to soften the policies about private colonies. They also discussed the problems of no electricity connection for the unapproved colonies and heavy fee for colonisers to plan a new colony.
Tagore Nagar Social Welfare Society took up the issue of a pending grant for park number 337. The Blind Association also met the CM regarding a grant for the upcoming national games to be held in Ludhiana.
The Chief Minister today listened to the grievances of the residents at various programmes held in ward number 54-55 (including a few parts of ward number 28 and29), 47, 48, 52, 51, 56, 53,45,46,49 and 50.He assured the residents that paucity of funds will not hamper the progress of development works in the city. He also directed the deputy commissioner and mayor of the corporation to jointly evolve a time-bound mechanism for disposal of complaints.
The Chief Minister also sanctioned a grant of Rs 2.48 crore for the construction of seven roads, Rs 18 lakh for pavements and Rs 33 lakh for a sewerage system in ward number 47. Likewise, he also approved Rs 4.54 crore for the construction of roads in ward number 48.
In ward number 54, the Kichlu Nagar Welfare Association demanded the construction of a library on a 200-square yard vacant plot near a PAU gate. The residents of the Udham Singh Nagar urged the Chief Minister to direct the PSEB authorities to replace old transmission lines with new ones.
