Mumbai The Kandivli police arrested a 21-year-old person last week in connection with a spate of auto-rickshaw robberies. According to the police, accused Ashok Kumar Yadav is a son of an auto rickshaw driver and took to stealing to earn easy money after his father gave up the job.

Vishnu Bagve, an auto rickshaw driver, registered a complaint with the police after his auto went missing from SV Road in October last year.

Following this the police conducted enquiries and came to know about similar incidents in other areas as well. During the course of investigation, they learnt that there was a man who used to steal auto-rickshaws in the past.

“After the case of stealing was registered against an unidentified accused, we noticed a similarity in the pattern of other auto-rickshaw thefts. Acting on the tip-off, we arrested Yadav from Kandivli. Incidentally, he is the son of a rickshaw driver,” said Senior Police Inspector Surendrakumar Jaiswal from the Kandivli police station.

The police said that Yadav had stolen three autos from their jurisdiction and one from Charkop. He has been charged with theft and has been remanded to judicial custody till February 3.
