Mahabir Singh to assume charge as DIG on March 14

Chandigarh, March 4 The new DIG (operations) of UT police, Mahabir Singh, will assume charge on March 14, said sources.

A 1993 batch IPS officer, Mahabir has been relieved of the charge of DCP, Anti-corruption branch (ACB), Delhi.

Singh will take over from the present DIG (operations) Dinesh Bhatt, who has been posted as the DIG Mizoram.

With the new DIG joining, another post of SSP in the UT police will be elevated to the DIG level.

DIG Vivek Gogia and A S Ahlawat are the other two senior rank officers in UT police.

While confirming the move, Mahabir said he had served as DCP, ACB for the past one and a half years and had also served as DCP traffic in Delhi.

He has also held the position of SSP, ACB in Andaman and Nicobar Islanss and that of SSP in Nicobar district.

Bhatt, who held the positions of IG (Prisons), joined as the SP (Headquarters and Intelligence and In-charge, Vigilance Cell) in May 2005.

He was promoted as SSP (Operations) and given charge of the Vigilance cell in September 2005. In July 2007, Bhatt was given the charge of training, and also retained the position of SSP (Operations).

He is also the in-charge of the Women and Child Support unit (WCSU) and has also held additional charge of SSP (UT) and SSP (traffic) for brief periods in 2006 and 2007.
