Surat A Maharashtra-based company, ABC Creation, which has its office in Adajan, has allegedly duped over 5,000 people by running a “phoney” scheme promising good jobs, the police said on Sunday.

The company is believed to have swindled money to the tune of Rs 2-3 crore from its members, who were asked to deposit Rs 5,000 and above in lieu of a job with assured monthly salary between Rs 1,500 and Rs 2,000, the police said.

Under the scheme, which was being run by the company for the last one year, the members who had deposited money were given data entry jobs.

The scam was unearthed on Saturday when several subscribers who had deposited money with the company reached the office demanding their salaries, the police said.

Daxa Joshi, in-charge of the company’s city branch, was beaten up by the mob, after she expressed her inability to answer their queries.

According to the police, a complaint of fraud has been registered in this regard and further investigations are on.
