Mumbai, September 8: In a fresh salvo against superstar Amitabh Bachchan's family, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena has vowed to block release of all films featuring any of its members in Maharashtra till Jaya Bachchan tenders an unconditional apology over her alleged anti-Marathi remarks.

MNS chief Raj Thackeray also asked Maharashtrians to boycott all products endorsed by the Bachchans accusing them of having "poison in their minds" for Marathi people.

Not a single film involving the Bachchan family would be allowed to be relased in Maharashtra, he said.

Though Raj has been miffed with Jaya, a Rajya Sabha member, for some time after the actress at a press conference earlier this year denied knowledge of his very existence what prompted this hardening of posture against Bollywood's Family No. 1 is Jaya's remarks over use of Hindi by north Indians.

An apparent off-the-cuff remark by her at a film promo party on September six has evoked the strong reaction from the MNS chief.

"She has said that she dosen't know who Raj Thackeray is... now, she will know", the MNS chief said.

Jaya had said, "Hum UP ke log hai, hume Hindi mein baat karni chahiye (we are from Uttar Pradesh and should speak in Hindi). Maharashtrians should pardon us for speaking in Hindi", she had added.

There was speculation that the barb was aimed at Raj Thackeray who had in the past launched a tirade against her husband over his alleged bias for native Uttar Pradesh while ignoring Maharashtra, the Bachchans' 'karmabhoomi'.

Raj Thackeray's threat is bad news for release of Rituparno Ghosh-directed English film The Last Lear starring Amitabh Bachchan on September 12 and Drona starring Jaya and son Abhishek later this month.

The MNS chief also sounded a warning to theatre owners who dared to exhibit the Bachchans' films.

"Let us see who shows these films", the MNS chief thundered, speaking at a press conference at Rajgad, his two-year old party's headquarters in central Mumbai.

"Jaya Bachchan originally hails from West Bengal. Let her utter these remarks there", Raj said.

"Whatever films and advertisements this family wants to do, they should go to UP and do it there", he said.

Justifying his 'ban' on the Bachchans, Raj said, "When Aamir Khan supported Narmada activist Medha Patkar, his films were banned in Gujarat".

The MNS chief lauded film maker Amol Palekar for "insisting on replying to a question asked in Marathi in the same language, despite others wanting him to speak in Hindi".

Raj also made light of the police gag orders against him.

"It seems that the government has extra stationary...they keep on issuing me notices. Let them issue notices, I will keep on expressing my views whenever I feel like", he said.

Mumbai police issue gag order against Raj Thackeray

The Mumbai police on Monday issued a barred MNS leader Raj Thackeray from making provocative speeches and holding press conferences for a month.

"The order under section 144 of the CrPC will be delivered to Raj Thackeray today following which it will be operational," Deputy Commissioner of Police Milind Bharambe said.

The order issued by the police has said action can be taken against him if he addresses public gatherings or addresses press conferences while the order is in force, he said.

The order has been issued by the Assistant Commissioner of Police of Dadar where Raj resides and will be served to him tonight, he said.

Raj, on Monday, held a press conference announcing his party would oppose the release and exhibition of movies in which members of the Amitabh Bachchan family were acting.

The police had earlier served Raj a notice seeking his stand on why the order should not be issued against him for his comments against city traders who failed to put up signboards in Marathi.

Earlier, Raj had been issued a similar order by the city police for his campaign targetting members of the north Indian community.
