Maintain green norms, HC asks Durgapur Project Ltd

Kolkata The Calcutta High Court on Friday asked the Durgapur Project Limited (DPL), an undertaking of the state government, to maintain the environmental norms.

Hearing a contempt petition filed by the West Bengal Pollution Control Board (WBPCB), the Division Bench comprising acting Chief Justice Bhaskar Bhattacharya and Justice Prasenjit Mondal directed the DPL to file an affidavit within three weeks against the petition. The WBPCB filed the contempt petition against Siba Prasad Dutta, Chairman and MD and several other senior officials of the company. Kallol Bose, counsel of the WBPCB filed the contempt petition alleging that the DPL had failed to check air and water pollution levels.
