Amritsar, January 6 Politically-sensitive Majha region has become the hotbed of bickering between the ruling partners, Shiromani Akali Dal (B) and Bharatiya Janata Party.

Earlier, BJP minister Laxmi Kanta Chawla locked horns with the Akali MLA from Valtoha, Virsa Singh Valtoha, over the issue of legal action against a private nursing home in Khemkaran and then the turf war between Bikram Majithia and Navjot Sidhu had invited the ire of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. Manjit Singh Mann, SAD (B) MLA from Khadoor Sahib, had also given public statements against Chawla for interfering in his area.

Now, the verbal spat between BJP MLA from Batala Jagdish Sahni and an Akali leader has again brought inter-party squabbles to limelight.

The trouble between the two alliance partners started at the time of Municipal Corporation elections, in which Akali cadres won hands down in urban areas. Another tussle was witnessed during the first MC House meeting when Akali councillors raised serious objections over installation of the statue of late BJP leader Baldev Parkash. While Deputy Mayor Ajaybirpal Singh Randhawa asked why the public money was being “misused”, the BJP leaders, led by Mayor Shawet Malik, were determined to erect the statue.

The fight for supremacy between Cabinet Minister Bikram Singh Majithia and BJP MP Navjot Singh Sidhu had reached a flashpoint and they had stopped talking to each other until the CM intervened and asked them to present a united face.

Sahni’s speakout against the Akali leader over a murder case brought him at loggerheads with the district police and is causing uneasiness between the cadres of the two parties.

Rattan Singh Ajnala, Lok Sabha MP from Tarn Taran and SAD (B) district head, however, said there was never a big confrontation between the alliance partners and their ties were intact. He said sometimes there were minor issues on which differences emerged.
