The by-elections have been necessitated because of the resignations by 10 BJP councillors to protest against the party’s failure to provide good governance.
The polling will be held for nine seats as BJP candidate from Ward Number 7 Kantibhai Thumar has been declared winner uncontested. Twenty-one candidates are in the fray for the remaining nine seats.
Hamirbhai Bheda, an LPG dealer and social worker from Keshod, said: “People have lost their interest in civic elections because of the dirty politics being played in the civic body. This time, people will not come out in a large number to vote for any party or candidate.”
According to Bheda, BJP’s internal bickering has badly affected its image.
Three years ago, the BJP had secured a landslide victory in Keshod Nagarpalika by winning 28 of 36 seats.
However, sources said, the party failed to do anything substantial in the city because of poor administration.
Later, the party’s 10 members had tendered their resignation in protest against the party's poor performance.
The protesting BJP councillors had moved no confidence motion three times in a year against the civic body president of their own party.
During the last one and a half years, no general meeting of he civic body had been conveyed, said sources.
