Maken was speaking in a debate on the Delhi Laws Special Provisions Act, 2009, in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.
He pointed out that the Malhotra Committee Report, which talked of an amnesty scheme, had been rejected by the NDA government, and an explanation had been sought from the then Vice Chairman of DDA, who was a member of the Committee.
Maken pointed out that the UPA government’s approach had benefited Delhites, as among the 33,096 properties sealed, 2,755 were desealed.
The number of registered commercial shops is 2,30,854 now, no new unauthorised colony has come up, professionals have received legal space to work, and liberalised floor area ratio (FAR) and an increase in the maximum height of buildings to 15 m have saved lakhs of houses from demolition, he said. Besides that work on construction of 1,13, 200 houses for the economically weaker sections has started. The DDA is also slated to spend Rs 1,094 crore to construct 15,660 houses during 2009-10, he said.
