Malik-Bishnoi duo lose in final

Chandigarh, February 6 Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association trainees Vijayant Malik and Jitin Bishnoi (HSIIDC) lost to top seed pair VM Ranjeet and N Sriram Balaji of Tamil Nadu in straight sets 4-6, 3-6 in the men's doubles quarter-finals of the SPS Elegant Central Excise AITA Open Grass Court Tennis Championship in Kolkata today.

According to information received here, Chandigarh's Deepinder Bains and Bharat Bhardwaj (Uttar Pradesh) also bowed out of the men' s doubles competition as they were beaten by Maharashtra duo of Yuvraj Haral and Aniket Sudhir -4,6-1. Sixth seed Mohammad Fariz of Tamil Nadu ended the challenge of Chandigarh-based Yogesh Phogat (HSIIDC) 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 in the men's singles pre-quarter-final match.

Top seed V.M. Ranjeet of Tamil Nadu reduced the quarter-final match of the men's singles against wild card Harshvardhan Thirani of Kolkata to a one- sided match 6-1, 6-0. Qualifier Vinod Kumar Sewa of Kolkata lost to second seeded Chennai veteran Vinod Sridhar 0-6, 1-6.

In the women's singles quarter-final match, second seed and defending champion Ragini Vimal brushed aside the challenge of Haryana girl Abhilasha Ahuja 6-0, 6-2.
