Kolkata Predicting violence during the May 30 civic polls in the state, Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee today alleged the CPM is trying to create communal disturbance in Kolkata and is gearing up for a massive bloodshed with the help of a section of police.

Banerjee was speaking at a rally in north Kolkata.

Earlier, CPM state secretary Biman Bose had also predicted violence and bloodshed during the municipal polls.

“The CPM is trying to create communal disturbance in areas like Rajabazar, Topsia, Park Circus and Cossipur in connivance with a section of police. I ask everybody to remain calm and not walk into their trap,” she said.

The Trinamool chief also alleged the CPM is trying to bring in armed cadres into Kolkata and create disturbance. “A section of police are with them. I ask the policemen to remain neutral. You do not have to support us, but please remain neutral,” Banerjee said.

“In every state, be it Tripura or Kerala, the government changes every five years. But here, the Left has been ruling for the past 40 years. It is time to end this. Victory in municipal polls will pave the way for the ouster of the CPM-led corrupt government,” she said.

She called on the people to resist the violence and go for voting on the polling day.

“They will throw bombs at you. But please go to the booth and vote. Each vote is important. Stand up against their violence and you will bring in the change. You voted for us in the Lok Sabha. Now is the time to oust them,” Banerjee said.

She also highlighted the lack of development during the Left-ruled KMC in the past five years.

“We will oppose water tax. The onus of water tax falls on the CPM, which took huge loans from the World Bank. They should repay it.”
