Kolkata Kolkata: The Trinamool Congress has denied the reports on the Union government seeking clarification from Mamata Banerjee on her statement about the death of Maoist leader. However, the party apprehends that Banerjee may have to make a statement on the issue once she attends the current session in the Parliament.

Banerjee is undergoing medical treatment since her convoy faced an accident on her return from Lalgarh on August 9. As she had fever last night, she has been advised rest.

Partho Chatterjee, the leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, said no formal communication has been received from the Centre asking Trinamool chief to explain her stand on the killing of the Maoist leader Azad alias Cherukuri Rajkumar. “We have not received any such letter from the Union government. This is a campaign against Mamata Banerjee to malign her image,” said Chatterjee.

Meanwhile TMC sources said, Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee will arrive Kolkata on Saturday. Mukherjee is likely to visit ailing Banerjee this weekend.

TMC sources said the issue of Azad’s killing became sensitive after the BJP and CPM demanded a statement from the Prime Minister on the issue. “If PM makes any statement on the issue in the Parliament, he would have to discuss it with Mamata Banerjee. But we do not feel the Union government will send any notice or letter in this regard. The PM can ask her to know actually what she wanted to say,” said a senior TMC leader. Sources said they have decided to launch a campaign against violence “unleashed by the CPM” across the state. They said Banerjee has asked the party leaders to continue the campaign till the current session in the Parliament.

A shameful event by Avijit Sinharoy on 14 Aug 2010

If the railway minister is strongly asked to clarify her actual standing whether she is with or without Maoists, troubles will come to Congress (So called UPA) government.Mamata banerjee is almost clear with view. She have no objections to give and take helps to the enemies of India.Congress is shouting about dangers of India due to Maoists movement but want to take of advantages of ruling India with the help of Trinamul Congress most of their supporters are sympathetic to Maoists. On one hand Congress (UPA ?)government is showing that they are serious about Maoists and on other hand they are supporting them.It is shameful on the eve of independence day.
