Kolkata Railway Minister and Trinamool Congress chief today avoided UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and did not even turn up to pay her last tributes to Jyoti Basu. Instead, she sent Partho Chatterjee, Leader of the Opposition, and some other Trinamool leaders to the state Assembly, where several leaders paid homage to the Marxist veteran.

The railway minister had earlier avoided Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during his two recent visits to Kolkata. According to party sources, Banerjee wants to send a clear message to New Delhi that she is unhappy over the Centre’s unwillingness to act against the state government over the law and order situation. While Gandhi was among the top national leaders who landed in Kolkata today to pay their last tributes to Basu, Banerjee was at her Kalighat home watching the proceedings over TV.

Mamata's idiocy! by Atanu on 20 Jan 2010

This should be another eye-opener for general public! When she can disrespect even her own alliance like this over and again how would she keep respect general mass. This is the basic difference between a mass leader like late Jyoti Basu and an idiot like Mamata!

Mamata's mercurial temperament by U.K.Pal on 20 Jan 2010

TMC supremo had given a go-by to all decency and decorum by abstaining from Jyoti Basu's funeral function. She didn't behave like a matured human being, let alone a seasoned politician and rather acted like a child. She was more guided by emotion than by rationale. How would people repose faith in her and hand over the governace of the state to her in the next assembly poll, as she thinks?
