Mumbai, March 2 Officers of the Dahisar police station arrested a man named Uday Sakpal (35) on charges of abetting an attempt to suicide by his wife Usha (32) at her residence at the Hanuman Tekdi slum in Kaju Pada, Dahisar, on Saturday.

According to the Dahisar police, Usha Sakpal had a male friend named Vinayak Kambli who would often drop in at their residence to meet Usha.

“Kambli’s regular visits to meet Usha was disapproved of by Uday. On March 1, he got into an argument with his wife on finding Kambli at their home when he returned. Enraged with the fact that despite his disapproval Kambli was frequenting his residence, Uday began to abuse Usha and accused her of bad character. Frustrated with her husband’s behaviour, Usha poured kerosene on herself and set herself on fire, suffering severe injuries in the process,” said Senior Police Inspector Ramesh Keni of the Dahisar police station.

Usha was admitted to Borivali’s Bhagwati Hospital while Uday was arrested for abetment to attempted suicide.
