Bathinda Jaspal Singh, a resident of Gaatwali village in the district, today morning allegedly attacked his elder brother Pal Singh with a sharp-edged tool, killing him on the spot.

“Deceased Pal Singh (38), who was reportedly a drug addict and had been disowned by the family four years ago, quietly walked into the home through a window in the morning and attacked his mother, Amarjit Kaur, with a sharp-edged tool after arguing with her over his disownment,” said Bathinda SSP Ashish Chaudhry.

“On seeing his mother being attacked, Jaspal headed towards Pal Singh, snatched the tool from him and assaulted him,” the SSP said, adding, “Jaspal also used a brick lying nearby to attack Pal on the head.”

Amarjit has been admitted to a hospital in Talwandi Sabo. The police said they have registered a case of murder, but Jaspal is absconding.

According to the police, Pal had attacked Jaspal in the past, seriously injuring his jaw.

“Jaspal had to spend more than six months in a hospital in Ludhiana, but he did not lodge any complaint against Pal,” claimed Sub-Inspector Mohinder Singh, who is investigating the case.
