Mumbai, February 16 The Bandra Metropolitan Magistrate on Saturday directed the Bandra police to investigate claims by Mehraj Sheikh that Manyata, who recently married Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt, was actually married to him and they had not been divorced yet.

Sheikh, a struggling writer, claims he married Manyata on April 5, 2003, and has told the court that he had photographs of the wedding. He also claims to have had a son with her, and the boy was living with relatives in Dubai .

In his application, Sheikh, who appeared without a lawyer, claims that although he and Manyata had been staying separately, neither of them had started divorce proceedings which meant Manyata’s marriage to Dutt was illegal.

Sheikh has been in jail for the past five months for sending obscene text messages to Bollywood actresses.

Directing Bandra police to conduct a detailed investigation into Sheikh’s complaint, the court asked them to submit a report on February 20.
