According to MD Raskar, senior police inspector of Government Railway Police (GRP) in Andheri, the girl was a resident of Bhilad, a remote village in Gujarat. She had come to Mumbai in search of employment against the wish of her parents. She was lured for work at Vile Parle railway station by two men identified as Ramesh and Amar alais Sheikh.
“They promised her a comfortable lifestyle and excellent job opportunities. The girl was taken to Milan subway between Santacruz and Vile Parle station and was raped near a slum. The incident happened just a day after she landed in Mumbai,” said Raskar.
He added the victim belonged to a poor family. Her father worked as a labourer in Bhilad. After a minor fight with her parents over issue of employment, she came to Mumbai in search of work.
While Amar alias Sheikh was arrested in July 2006 after the girl identified him, the other accused is still absconding.
“The girl is now married. We will now approach her parents to tell them about the conviction,” said Raskar.
