Kolkata Tension prevailed at the Sealdah station on Saturday morning following the death of a 56-year-old man, allegedly due to delayed medical treatment. Nilratan Saha, the deceased, arrived on the station aboard the Gende local around 10 am and fell ill while on the platform.

Even as co-passengers immediately alerted the railway police and railway officers, it is alleged that the doctor from B R Singh Railway Hospital arrived only around 12 pm. He declared Saha dead citing cardiac arrest as the reason. Irked, the passengers protested and tried to ransack the station.

Samir Goswami, CPRO, Eastern Railways, however maintained that the Railways should not be blamed as the doctor was sent immediately.

The body was later sent for postmortem.
