Ludhiana The last day of the year proved to be wretched for a local farmer when a prankster ran away with a whopping amount in broad daylight on the busy Mall Road here this afternoon. Though the farmer has not revealed the exact amount stolen, it is reliably learnt that the amount was nearly Rs 13 lakh.

According to sources, one Iqbal Singh Gill from the Barewal Road, along with his son had gone to a private bank. While Gill was waiting in the car with the booty in his bag, his son went inside the bank to withdraw money. Sources said t the duo had to take the money to Jalandhar to make a business payment.

Sources said that a youth approached Gill and told him that his money was lying on the road. When Gill saw, he found a few currency notes in the denomination of 10 lying on the road.

Unmindful of the money lying in the car, he started collecting the money. After a while, he realised that the bag lying in the car was missing. Following this, he raised the alarm but the conman had given him the slip.

The Division number 5 SHO Sandeep Kumar Wadhera said the police had registered a theft case against an unidentified person and investigations had begun in the case. However till the filing of this report no breakthrough had been made in this regard.
