Mumbai A sessions court on Saturday sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a 10-year-old in Walkeshwar.

The accused, Ramsingh Kahar, used to work as a domestic help at a house in Mulchand Bhavan near Babulnath temple and the victim lived on the footpath near the house. The residents were NRIs and used to stay in the house whenever they visited India. Making most of the situation, Kahar lured the 10-year-old girl and raped her in the house. The case came to light in 2006 when the victim raised an alarm while she was in the house with Kahar.

According to the prosecution, after this incident, the victim informed her mother that Kahar had taken her to the house on some pretext and later raped her. He had raped her thrice on earlier occasions, the victim told her mother.

The victim’s mother then approached Gamdevi police station and filed a complaint against Kahar. The occupants of the house were summoned and they co-operated with the police in collecting the evidence including bedsheets in the house for tests. It helped the forensic team to produce evidence against Kahar in the court.

Prosecution examined 10 witnesses in the case. Based on the evidence and victim’s testimony, Judge PV Ganediwala sentenced Kahar to 10 years in jail.
