Kolkata The police arrested Bhola Das — prime accused in the murder of Congress leader Bapi Chowdhury — from Jamsedhpur on Sunday. Das was produced before the Barasat court, which sent him to five-day police custody.

On December 20, last year, hired killers had shot dead Chowdhury at a blood donation camp at Prafullnagar in Habra. Along with Chowdhury, Trinamool Congress worker Ranjit Roy was also killed. Das is alleged to be the main conspirator in the murder, along with Trinamool leader Raju Dam.

Das had arranged weapons used in the murder and the safe escape from the site for the killers, said police.

Among the 10 people

involved in the crime, including Raju Dam, are still absconding.

“Raju Dam’s economic interests were being hampered because of Bapi Chowdhury and therefore, he conspired to murder him,” said North 24-Parganas SP Rahul Srivastava.
